Hawaiian Goddess Smoothie
This simple vegetarian recipe is a copycat of the most amazing smoothie I ever drank. I found it at Blossoming Lotus, a live vegan restaurant, while vacationing in Hawaii. Once I got home, I experimented with tropical fruits in my blender and voila!
Prep time: 10 min; Total time: 10 min
Ingredients
- 1/4 papaya, frozen
- 1 banana, frozen
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 5 or so macadamia nuts
- 1 c. milk or soymilk
In a blender, vanilla extract, 1/4 a frozen papaya (seeded and peeled), 1 frozen banana, macadamia nuts, and 1 c. milk or soymilk. Blend until smooth.
Tips
To make your smoothie sweeter, add 3 dried whole pitted dates.
Instead of using vanilla extract, use 3 vanilla rooibos tea ice cubes. Start by making a pot of vanilla rooibos tea. Pour boiling water on a teabag and steep for 3 min. Let the tea begin to cool and pour into an ice cube tray. Freeze the ice cubes and use in smoothies as needed.
Look for organic papaya and organic soymilk to use in your smoothie. According to Seeds of Deception, about 50% of Hawaiian papayas and 85% of soybeans are genetically modified, but organic foods are never genetically modified.
