Barbeque Onion Pepper Pizza

Make this healthy vegetarian barbeque pizza with sweet onions, roasted peppers, and any other fresh veggie you have in the house.

Prep time: 15 min; Total time: 30 min

Ingredients

Any pizza tastes best if it is made with a pizza stone. If you have one, place it on the bottom of your oven (or on the bottom rack if the bottom has coils) and heat it to 450 F for 15 minutes. During this time, assemble your pizza.

Begin with your crust. I make my own crust so at this stage it is still raw dough - you may need to adjust your recipe accordingly if you use a ready-made crust (the package should have instructions).

Instead of pizza sauce, use barbeque sauce. Spread a thick layer of barbeque sauce on the pizza crust. I like to use homemade maple orange barbeque sauce.

Once the pizza crust is coated thickly with barbeque sauce, sprinkle grated mozzerella cheese on the pizza if you are using it.

Last, slice onions and peppers into matchsticks and lay them on top.

Bake on the pizza stone for 12-15 minutes at 450 F.

Tips
To add protein to this pizza, add tofu! Drain firm tofu and slice it into small pieces to use it. (You can also add tempeh or seitan)

If you are dining with omnivores, they can add chicken or pulled pork.

If you are not vegan, try using pepper jack cheese, smoked gouda, or cheddar instead of (or in addition to) mozzerella.

Add other veggies to your pizza if you wish - try tomatoes (or sundried tomatoes), broccoli, and mushrooms.

When you make your own crust, try mixing herbs into the crust. I used oregano and herbes de provence. If you want, you can follow my recipe for Sundried Tomato and Herb Pizza Crust.
