Mango Chutney Pizza

Mango chutney on pizza? The sweet mango with the kick of jalepenos makes this unique pizza delicious. Don't knock it til you try it.

You can make your pizza vegetarian or vegan. Even if you are not vegan, cheese might prove to be an unnecessary distraction from the chutney flavor.

If you want to take a shortcut, use a store-bought crust and store-bought chutney.

Prep time: 15 min; Total time: 30 min

Ingredients

Any pizza tastes best if it is made with a pizza stone. If you have one, place it on the bottom of your oven (or on the bottom rack if the bottom has coils) and heat it to 450 F for 15 minutes. During this time, assemble your pizza.

Begin with your crust. I make my own crust so at this stage it is still raw dough - you may need to adjust your recipe accordingly if you use a ready-made crust (the package should have instructions).

Spread a thick layer of marinara on the pizza.

Once the pizza crust is coated thickly with marinara, add mozzerella if you wish to do so.

Last, create the mango chutney. You can also create this earlier and refrigerate it for several hours or overnight to let the flavor develop. Combine mango, vinegar, lime juice, sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and jalepenos. Add salt and pepper to taste. Alternatively, use store-bought mango chutney instead of making your own.

Spread the mango chutney on the top of the pizza.

Bake on the pizza stone for 12-15 minutes at 450 F.

Tips
If you make your own crust, try mixing herbs into the crust. I used oregano and herbes de provence. You can also make extra pesto and mix that into the crust.

Mango chutney recipes vary. The one here is minimalist by design. If you are in an ambitious mood, add 2 cloves minced garlic, 1/2 inch minced fresh ginger, 1 small finely chopped onion, and spices such as allspice, cloves, cayenne, and mustard seeds.

You can also use a peach or pineapple chutney instead. If you make your own chutney, try using 1 mango and 1 peach or 1 mango and 1 c. diced pineapple instead of 2 mangos. You can also add some granny smith apple.

If you'd like to add more peppers or spices, go for it. Cayenne or cumin would taste nice in your chutney, and adding more jalepenos will also kick the heat up a notch.
